I have only bought the game recently, but have played about 30 games now.
I agree that this game is almost half-deck building and half-playing to see how well you did it. So for players that are no interested in deck building this is not a good game for them. That being said, I'm used to magic the gathering and the deck building in this game is pretty straight forward (for my personal play style) that I have maybe spent 10 minute in total putting together two dual-sphere 2-player decks that my partner and I play with and win more often than loose (one monster killing tactics/leadership and one full support spirit/lore)
I highly disagree that one NEEDS a second core set or expansions to 'get anywhere'. I have used only the core set cards (only one set) and have sucessfully completed all the quests multiple times. Of course I lost too.
If you take some time to review the cards and find synergies and combos, you can keep them in mind and make for a better game! I also find majority of the entertainment for me and my partner are those 'ah-ha!' moments when we discover a new trick or combo. :)

Hi
That's interesting and good to know that one core set is playable.
Having played a little more I think I would like this game if I could find a way of having SOME chance of winning :p
If I had some success I probably would start adding expansions.
I do mainly play solo but will be getting my partner involved soon.
