One reason for "high" difficultu is the gaming system. This is co-op game, so it will become easier and easier, the more you learn and improve your deck, so it has to be guite hard or it will be boring very quicly and easy.
But I have to agree with you. These new quest are not for casual player! Many of those fan-made scenarios with difficulty level 1-4 are more suitable to players who don't play often or don't tinker their decks a lot. (And they are allso very good looking when using some of those picture printing shops.)

For huge battles I have to say that I have had a huge battles with 4 player, 10-12 allies to each player (so over 50 good fighers in there :-) and a countles of enemy cards! That was epic I have to say, but the War of the Rings mentioned earlier is very good supstitute if you want ot have armies and battles. I like that game a lot, but I like this game too. But I have huge ccg backround, so this is more game to players like me than those who are more familiar normal board games and maybe nice and easy card games like Dominion.

I hope that you find those easier fan made scenasior to more your liking or a game that you like more! Not every player likes same kind of games. But we really have a huge amount of good games in these days, so don't worry I am sure that you will find allso your favorite games!
