I play with 2 deck (double-fisted) a lot. I play like described above. I don't exhaust cards the way described in rules. I exhaust card just 45 degree (not horizontaly - 90 degree) so I can still read text on cards.
Also characters that are commited to the quest I exhaust to the left and other cards to the right. So when some treachery removes some card from quest I just change side (from left to right) and I can still easily sum total willpower. Or when I use Denethor or any other card before questing, I exhaust it to right side.
