I know that one tries to build decks with 3 copies of certain cards.
This also requires buying 3 core sets :( .
If one has 1 core, a few adventure packs, and maybe kzd, can he find reasonable substitutions for the missing core copies?
I don't have the game. I think I want it , but not if I have to buy the game THREE times Sheesh. FFG, I love, hate, love, hate you.

I wouldn't worry about that. The game is great fun with just one core set, though if you like the game, you'll probably end up buying the expansions :)
After having bought the core set and all available expansions and played around 80 games, I've come to the conclusion that I'm glad that FFG only included 1 or 2 copies of the most powerful cards, since otherwise the game would become too easy. So if you like me prefer the game to be challenging, then I would recommend not buying three core sets.
