I hear you about playing wargames solo. I just picked up War of the Ring 2nd edition (have had the 1st ed. for years) and sat down to play that one solo. If you can play 2 sides on war of the ring, you can play two sides on anything!

I also have noticed that the game doesn't really go a whole lot quicker on solo deck. I feel like every single decision counts more on a solo deck game and might even spend more time strategizing/figuring out how to unscrew my situation sometimes. The deck building is certainly more challenging, and with the current card pool, has become stale and less fun. Solo deck forces you to play the absolute best cards of every sphere again and again.

Somebody mentioned dice earlier in this thread, that has completely revolutionized my game! I now track my questing power with D6s as I progress through staging, response action, and quest resolution steps of quest phase. It is amazing how much dice takes the mental math load off the brain and allows you to focus on more important stuff. For scoring, I use a D6 right under the encounter deck. I have added my own step (flip turn dice) during resource phase, so I can actually track my turns.

I am now wrestling with whether to go into Heirs of Numenore solo or just skip straight to double handed. Just got Laketown in the mail, and by the looks of that one, I'm not even going there solo deck.
