It still depends. Playing with 3 or 4 with just a single base set will give very little room for manoeuvre, or choice. But the more APs you have, the less of a problem that becomes. Look to see if you can find a second hand one - not only will it be cheaper, but you may be able to get away with much cheaper postage by not bothering with tings like the box.
