I don't know how you can say a card game "suffers" from randomness. Of course it has a random element--just like every card game ever conceived--from Magic:TG to Poker.As a long time former Magic:TG player, I find the deckbuilding component just as fascinating if not more so than in Magic. And it doesn't feel like cheating to me--I lose more than I win. The randomness you don't like actually is key. Yes I know what cards are in the encounter deck, but I don't know when they will come up, nor do I know whether that card will be drawn as an encounter or a shadow effect.
I admire anyone who takes the time to write a review on BGG, but I will have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.
